Horrible Poetry Wednesday #3

It's time for another one of my Horrible poems! This week, I'll treat you all to something a little different. This is a bunch of Haiku strung together to form a larger piece. I don't know if you can still call it Haiku at that point, but basically what I'm saying is that, for each stanza, the syllable structure is 5-7-5.
Let me know what you think about the poem below, and if you have any suggestions for future Horrible Poetry Wednesday posts, feel free to submit your ideas or original works to me! I'll review each submission and let you know if it's been accepted withing one to two weeks. Anyway, here's the poem for your enjoyment!

Economics
The Economy.
It flows like a great river,
Yet interrupted.

It has been dammed up
By Beavers, eager to please.
They know not the truth.

A long way downstream,
Far beyond their small foresight,
The river dries up.

The fish disappear,
And the bears not long after.
All living things die.

But the selfish ones,
The ever eager Beavers,
Do not seem to care.

They naively think
That they are above reproach
and infallible.

But do they not know,
or, rather, do they not care,
That they are killing?

So, how horrible was it? Leave your comment below and then share with your friends! Or, if you'd like to read more Horrible Poetry, read Horrible Poetry Wednesday #1, Horrible Poetry Wednesday #2, Horrible Poetry Wednesday #4, or Horrible Poetry Wednesday #5 if you haven't already!

  1. I like the style, the seperate haiku make it choppy, which is good, but flow as a general idea. At least how I read it.

    1. Thanks! Yeah, I don't know if you would classify this as open verse or if it's haiku or something else, but I feel the same way. I like the that each Haiku is part of a cohesive whole; cohesion was something I always found lacking in Traditional Haiku, and I didn't really like that. I did enjoy writing this poem, and I'm glad you enjoyed reading it!
